The product’s popularity and demand data
The product’s popularity is driven by its high-quality ingredients and targeted marketing campaigns, attracting pet owners across urban and suburban markets. The demand data for the past six months, carefully recorded to reflect seasonal trends, promotional discounts, and pet adoption events, is presented in the table below. Accurate forecasting is critical for the manufacturer to manage raw material procurement, schedule production runs, and coordinate logistics with distributors, ensuring pet stores are well-stocked without excess inventory that could increase storage costs. Table 1: Monthly Demand Data for Premium Dog Food
Using a 3-month simple moving average, calculate the forecasted demand for month 7 to guide the manufacturer’s production planning.
Using exponential smoothing with a smoothing constant of 0.2 and an initial forecast for month 1 of 1,200 bags, calculate the forecasted demand for month 7.
Question 4: Production Scheduling for a Furniture Assembly Workshop
A specialized furniture assembly workshop produces two types of wooden chairs, Model X and Model Y, on a single assembly line to supply home furnishing retailers. The workshop operates in a competitive market, requiring precise scheduling to meet delivery deadlines and maintain customer satisfaction. Producing Model X chairs takes 0.9 hours per unit due to detailed craftsmanship, while Model Y chairs require 1.3 hours per unit because of additional finishing processes. Switching the assembly line from Model X to Model Y requires a setup time of 3.5 hours to reconfigure tools and adjust workstations, while switching from Model Y to Model X takes 2.5 hours. The workshop must produce 90 units of Model X and 70 units of Model Y in a week to fulfill a major order, with the assembly line available for 55 hours per week. The production manager needs to calculate key scheduling metrics to optimize the production sequence, prioritizing the sequence that minimizes setup time to maximize efficiency and meet deadlines.
Calculate the total production time required for 90 units of Model X and 70 units of Model Y, excluding setup times.
Calculate the total time (production + setup) required to produce the required units, using the sequence that minimizes setup time.
Question 5: Process Flowchart for Furniture Assembly
Based on the production process described in Question 4, draw a detailed flowchart to illustrate the sequence of steps for producing Model X and Model Y chairs in the furniture assembly workshop. The flowchart should include the following steps: receiving raw materials (wood and hardware for both chair models), setting up the assembly line for Model X, producing Model X chairs, setting up the assembly line for Model Y, producing Model Y chairs, inspecting finished chairs, and packaging for delivery. Incorporate decision points for selecting which chair model to produce first, handling defective units (assume a 4% defect rate for both models), and looping to process additional units. Clearly -

Hello Everyone, In another course, I recently came across a case study that gave me some…
Hello Everyone, In another course, I recently came across a case study that gave me some interesting insights into H&M’s supply chain and business model. I thought it would be worthwhile to share a few takeaways.
H&M’s sourcing strategy relies heavily on outsourcing production while investing in responsible procurement practices. On the plus side, outsourcing allows the company to produce goods in regions with lower labor and manufacturing costs, which helps cut expenses and boost efficiency (H&M Group, 2025).
H&M also partners closely with its suppliers and uses digital purchasing systems to streamline production and speed up delivery times. However, this approach isn’t without its challenges. Managing a global supply chain is incredibly complex, plus H&M has to spend more on quality control, logistics, and keeping a close eye on its suppliers. On top of that, the company’s commitment to sustainable sourcing, like using recycled materials and investing in circular fashion, does come with higher upfront costs. Still, by working closely with suppliers and scaling these initiatives, H&M may be able to bring costs down over time and even gain a competitive edge.
Despite these challenges, H&M seems to be striking a good balance between environmental responsibility, social impact, and financial performance. According to its 2024 Sustainability Report, the company has made strong progress on several key goals, including a 41% reduction in direct emissions (Scope 1 and 2) and a 24% reduction across its full value chain (Scope 3) (Rice, 2025). Nearly 90% of the materials it uses are now sustainably sourced or recycled. Socially, H&M supports local economies by partnering with independent suppliers and continues to promote gender equity, with women making up 65% of leadership roles (Rice, 2025). Financially, while there was a slight dip in net sales due to market shifts and planned store closures, the company still managed to improve its operating profit through better cost management and procurement strategies. This shows that it’s possible to push sustainability goals forward without hurting profitability, but it does take careful planning and innovation.
Looking ahead, long-term success for H&M will depend on how well it continues to balance the “three Ps”, which are Profit, People, and Planet. That means aligning its financial, environmental, and social efforts across the board. In other words, the company should keep investing in building a socially responsible supply while expanding its circular business models like resale and recycling. Ethical sourcing, fair labor practices, and gender equity should also remain key priorities. While sustainability efforts might raise short-term costs, H&M can use its scale, strong partnerships, and innovation to drive long-term savings and build customer loyalty. By making sustainability a core part of its strategy and being transparent in how it reports progress, H&M can strengthen its brand, -

➤ Why do accuracy metrics like MAE and MAPE matter for production and inventory planning?
Accuracy metrics such as MAE and MAPE quantify forecast errors in units or percentage. They guide safety stock levels, reorder points, and production batch sizes. Lower error reduces stockouts and excess inventory. Track these metrics to tune forecasting parameters and improve procurement and service level decisions. -

Nguyen Premium Property Pty Ltd (NPP)
Nguyen Premium Property Pty Ltd (NPP) has established itself as a leading real estate agency in Australia that is renowned for its high-end property transactions and exceptional customer service. The agency was founded by Noah Nguyen and Sophie Wood in 2006, and it has since expanded across Australia with offices in Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane and Perth. Between them, Noah and Sophie currently own 100% of NPP’s shares. NPP consistently features on The Fast 100, a list of Australia’s strongest growing companies. Growing up in Australia in a Vietnamese immigrant family, Noah learned the value of adopting a strong work ethic. His achievements have been noticed by the local community, and overtime NPP has become an iconic brand in the Australian property industry. Alongside selling premium residential real estate, NPP has expanded into the commercial property market. Its activities range from property sales and leases to valuation services, building consultancy and commercial finance (arranging funding). NPP’s core commercial market is prime office buildings in Australia’s largest cities (which comprises all of NPP’s commercial commission income).
Current operations
NPP operates with a decentralised management structure. Local NPP branches report directly to the head office in Sydney. The management team includes Noah Nguyen (Chief Executive Officer), Sophie Wood (Marketing and Information Systems Director) and four branch managers. Noah is also in charge of two head office departments: the Finance team and the People & Culture team. Sophie’s responsibilities include all central marketing activities, such as brand management, corporate advertising, marketing concepts, and pricing. Sophie also manages an organisation-wide, fully integrated information system. Each NPP branch manager leads a local team of self-employed real estate agents. While the branch managers have discretion in many operational decisions, their branches are expected to operate within strict budgets and performance targets.
NPP’s accounting system requires each agent to enter all transaction-related information for their property portfolio, ensuring accuracy and accountability (as each agent’s entries can be tracked and verified). Consequently, the agent who is responsible for a listing then updates the sales pipeline, creates invoices and enters personal expense claims and supplier invoices (e.g. local advertising, photography and signage). Each branch selects and manages its local suppliers, who are often small businesses. NPP’s agreements with these suppliers contain more restrictive payment conditions than the industry standard of 30-day credit terms.
Since commissions are a major part of an agent’s income. read further in pics,Required (a) Evaluate whether NPP’s four (4) key performance indicators (KPIs) are appropriate for determining if the company is achieving its overall strategic objectives.
