When a managed care clinician denies authorization for additional sessions, counselors still have an ethical responsibility to advocate for their client while still remaining honest and compliant with our professional standards. Several actions would be considered both professionally appropriate and ethical. First, the counselor can submit additional clinical documentation explaining why the client would benefit from continued treatment and also how the request meets medical necessity criteria. The counselor could also request a peer-to-peer consultation or appeal the decision through the managed care review process. Consulting with a supervisor or clinical director is also another appropriate step, especially when determining the best way to advocate for the client within agency policies. The counselor might also help the client explore other resources such as sliding-scale services, community programs, or possibly group counseling if additional individual sessions cannot be approved. These approaches reflect the counselor’s innate duty to promote the client’s well-being. The American Counseling Association Code of Ethics states, “The primary responsibility of counselors is to respect the dignity and promote the welfare of clients” (American Counseling Association, 2014, Standard A.1.a). At the same time, the counselor must ensure that all documentation and billing remain accurate. The ACA Code also states, “Counselors accurately represent their credentials and services when seeking payment from clients or third-party payers” (American Counseling Association, 2014, Standard C.3.a). Some responses to the situation, however, would violate ethical standards. For example, exaggerating a client’s symptoms to meet medical necessity criteria, altering documentation to justify additional sessions, or encouraging the client to report symptoms they are not experiencing would all be unethical. These actions would misrepresent clinical information and undermine professional integrity. Although counselors may feel pressure when insurance companies limit treatment, ethical practice requires honesty and transparency in all documentation and communication. Advocacy should involve working within the system through proper appeals, consultation, and resource referrals rather than just attempting to “manipulate” the process.

**"Through observing the patient experience and learning through others, nurses develop theories relative to their experiences.  To develop a theory comes from observations simply seen in daily clinical practice. This may seem not possible, given how busy nurses are. Middle-range theories are useful because they take concepts and test real-world scenarios in clinical settings rather than grand theories (Chinn et al., 2022). Middle-range theories can show how nursing observations are connected. Middle-range theories identify problems for patients with the appropriate interventions and outcomes. The more concrete the concept, the better testing that can be put into the hypothesis (Chinn et al., 2022).**

**Theory development can involve nurses reflecting on their experiences and engaging in research (Chinn et al., 2022). Through the observations during patient care, there would be uncertainties that may create questions appropriate for improving outcomes.  Nurses can collaborate with colleagues in research, do literature reviews, and create projects centered on quality. Middle-range theories are imperative for bringing all the observations and data with current knowledges (Chinn et al., 2022). Nursing theory can improve by combining knowledge with observations in clinical practice (Chinn et al., 2022).**

**There is importance of keeping updated with current education and new literature to stay current in practice. Involvement in peer discussion about complicated topics or passing feedback, completing regular continuing education, and utilizing evidence-based practice is how I will stay current in my practice as a APRN. Nurses utilize evidence to make them aware of patterns in patient care.  Theory, evidence-based research, and application to practice while provide the support to make nursing care and patient outcomes stronger (Melnyk & Fineout-Overholt, 2023).**

Classroom management plays a crucial role in your success as a teacher, and it may also be one of your greatest challenges. To create an effective learning environment, it is important to understand various classroom management models and theories while also building strong relationships with your students to meet their unique learning needs.

In Week 1, you began defining your classroom management philosophy, which set the foundation for your beliefs about behavior and discipline. For this week’s assessment, you will compare different classroom management models and begin to establish classroom expectations and procedures, while factoring in potential student diversities (i.e., cultural backgrounds, experiences, language, developmental levels, and skills).

    #### **Assessment Deliverable**

**Create** a 12- to 15-slide presentation in which you compare classroom management models and describe your expectations for classroom routines and procedures. Address the following in your presentation:

    – Classroom Management Models
    – Select at least 2 different classroom management models for comparison.
    – For each model, describe the following:
    – The theory or theorist associated with it
    – How it functions in the classroom
    – How it promotes appropriate behavior and a positive learning environment
    – Routines and Procedures
    – Select a middle or high school grade level and identify at least 5 routines or procedures that you may need to establish, monitor, and communicate with students to ensure your classroom runs smoothly. For example, entering and exiting the classroom, turning in assignments, going to the restroom, cell phones, etc.
    – For each routine or procedure, describe the following:
    – The steps for completing it and the expectations of students as they complete it in the classroom
    – The consequences incurred if students do not follow the steps and meet expectations
    – How you will teach and communicate the expectations of the routine or procedure to students
    – Explain how students’ diverse cultural backgrounds, personal experiences, language proficiencies, developmental levels, and skills influenced your identification of routines and procedures.
    – Analysis of Routines and Procedures
    – From your identified routines or procedures, select 2 that you feel are most important to an effective learning environment for all students and explain the following for each:
    – Why it is critical to an effective learning environment
    – Which classroom management model(s) it may follow or align with
    – How you considered students’ diversity (e.g., language, abilities, and skills) when creating and communicating expectations
    – Your legal and ethical responsibilities related to establishing, monitoring, and communicating the routine or procedure

**Include** the following formatting components in your presentation:

    – Comprehensive speaker notes for your slides or recorded voiceover in your presentation
    – Graphics or images to make it visually appealing
    – A title slide
    – A references slide for any sources and/or images cited

    **Allender Journal Assignment Instructions**

    **Overview**

Each of us has a story, a very important and sacred story, in which we and God are always writing. The apostle Paul eloquently stated it this way:

“12 Therefore, my dear friends, as you have always obeyed—not only in my presence, but now much more in my absence—continue to work out your salvation with fear and trembling, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose” (Philippians 2, NIV version).

Additionally, the American Counseling Association (2014)
_Code of Ethics_ states that counselors are to, “monitor themselves for signs of impairment from their own physical, mental, or emotional problems and refrain from offering or providing professional services when such impairment is likely to harm a client or others” (Section F.5.b). In other words, “Counselor, know thyself!”

The purpose of this assignment is to give you an opportunity to closely examine how your life has unfolded to this day in time, unveiling the work of God and your role. The premise is that by examining your life you will more clearly know what you bring to the counseling relationship that will both help and hinder your future clients. Additionally, this journaling assignment will become the basis of your sharing in your intensive growth groups.

    **Instructions**

Each journal entry will consider multiple questions related to the corresponding assigned reading. Your answers should reflect two elements: critical thinking and integration of each chapter and personal application of each chapter content to your life.

The first journal, over the introduction and chapter one of the Allender text, is due BEFORE you arrive at the intensive on Monday morning. The remaining chapters, 2-8, are due during the intensive week according to the “Allender Text Journal Text” table included at the end of the document. In addition to completing your journal in Canvas, you must also bring a copy of each journal entry to class so that you are prepared to share your journals with others in your growth groups each day of the intensive.

Your journal entries should be 1-1.5 pages per question (2-3 pages total per daily entry). References and citations are not needed for this assignment and first-person may be used, but please use general APA formatting including a title page, appropriate font, and double spacing.

Please note that no late journal assignments will be accepted, as these will support the group discussions.

Note: Your assignment will be checked for originality via the Turnitin plagiarism tool.
