    History of Photography
    Spring 2026
    Fenn

    In-Class Presentation

    10 Points Possible

Due Dates: Canvas Submission by 5pm on Wednesday, April 1
Presentations on April 2, April 7 and April 9

On April 2, 7, or 9, each student will provide a short presentation on the work of one
photographer. The presentation must be 5 minutes long, provide a brief biography of the
artist, and include analysis of the individual’s work – particularly the photo assigned to a
given photographer. While the photograph you are assigned should certainly be included in
your presentation, make sure to discuss more than one work. Perhaps you tackle other
images they produced of which the assigned image is a part or maybe you discuss varying
types of work the artist has produced. You will have access to the classroom projector and
computer and must upload to Canvas your presentation (pdf or Powerpoint) by 5pm on
Wednesday, April 1. This will allow for the presentation to be downloaded to the class
computer and ready for viewing prior to beginning the course period. An aim of this project
is for each student to converse thoughtfully about photographs and their history. Please
take a careful look at the supplied grading rubric.

Artists and photographs from which to choose:

    1) Neal Slavin’s International Twins Association, Muncie, Indiana (1976)

What should you include in your analysis of the
    photograph(s) you present?
It’s important to consider what the photographer is trying/intends to communicate and why
you believe the viewer should care. If you don’t think the work warrants interest, it is
important for you to explain your reasoning. I also encourage you to discuss more than the
assigned photograph. You should consider including other photographs in which the series
may be a part or consider showing other photographs within the artists overall oeuvre (this
is your word of the day)!

Important: On the last slide of your presentation, please cite the sources utilized. This can
be done using MLA or Chicago standards.

    Kiera Lee

The primary goal of Jungian analysis, developed by Carl Jung, is individuation, which is the process of becoming your most authentic and whole self. I really like this concept because it goes beyond just “fixing problems” and focuses on truly understanding who you are at your core. Jung believed that growth happens when we bring together both our conscious and unconscious thoughts, allowing us to live more balanced and meaningful lives (Murdock, 2025). The individuation journey is often described in four stages. First is recognizing the persona, or the mask we show the world. Second is confronting the shadow, which includes the parts of ourselves we may hide or deny. Third is integrating the anima or animus, which helps create balance within our identity. Finally, the last stage is developing the self, where a person reaches a sense of wholeness and alignment (Murdock, 2025). I also think this approach works best for clients who are open to deep self reflection and personal growth. It may especially benefit individuals going through life transitions or struggling with identity. This type of counseling takes time, but it can be very powerful for those who are ready to truly understand themselves on a deeper level.

Part 1: Article review (3 pages)

    (3) In assignment 3, locate an article that discusses any topics that we have covered in
class to this point. Be prepared to discuss your selected article in class discussion.  This
article should focus on couples or family therapy. Please let me know if you have any
    questions.

    For Brilliant answer:
    American words only
    Small mistake for realism
    Use sources provided

PART 2: Discussion post (115-195 words)

It is said that in Experiential Family Therapy, “the effectiveness of the approach depends on the
person hood of the therapist.” What are the personality characteristics of a good experiential
family therapist? Would you be a good fit for this approach? Discuss why or why not and give
    specific characteristics and rationale.

PART 3: respond to 2 students post (30-65 words)

    Student 1:
Experiential Family Therapy emphasizes that the therapist’s personhood their authenticity,
emotional presence, and ability to engage deeplyis central to therapeutic effectiveness. A
strong experiential family therapist typically demonstrates genuineness, emotional openness,
spontaneity, creativity, and the capacity to form warm, authentic connections with clients.
These therapists are comfortable with emotional intensity, skilled at facilitating expression, and
able to model vulnerability in ways that help families access deeper levels of experience.
Based on these characteristics, I would be a good fit for this approach because I value
authenticity, emotional attunement, and intuitive engagement qualities that align closely with
experiential work. My strengths in empathy, self-awareness, and the ability to connect
meaningfully with others support the model’s emphasis on emotional presence. Additionally, my
comfort with creativity and flexibility would allow me to use expressive techniques effectively.

These characteristics provide a strong rationale for why I could practice this approach in a way
that is both ethical and therapeutically impactful.

    Student 2:
Some personality characteristics of an experiential family therapist are to include being a
natural observer, authenticity, genuinity, openness, emotional awareness, empathy, and many
    other important characteristics.

Based off the characteristics listed, I think that I would be a good fit for this approach because
of three main characteristics that I have: empathy, genuinity, and openness. While I have many
of the other characteristics of an experiential family therapist, I think these three are very
important to have especially when working with couples and families. It's important to be able
to understand the different emotions that will be presented in couple/family therapy. When
talking about family therapy in specific with children, it's imperative that a therapist is open-
minded and able to comprehend these types of complex emotions and situations, and I think
that I have a strong ability to fit this.

Other characteristics include attentiveness, presence, engagement, creativity, and confidence.
I feel that I fit all of these characteristics and would be a good fit as an experiential family
therapist. I think that it is very important to be able to have strong active listening skills and to
be actively present in family therapy so that the clients can feel that they are being equally
considered and receiving a full range of care.
