    Course Project Overview

    Designing a Compensation Plan

    Objectives

The primary learning objective of the individually completed Course Project is to provide practical

experience in designing specific elements of a compensation structure for an organization, beginning

with creating a business, staffing it, implementing the pay plan, and assessing performance.

    Getting Started

The Individual Course Project requires a great deal of work. Please do not wait until we have covered all

of the material to get started. Familiarize yourself with the online resources, both O*NET and the

information at salary.com. The DeVry University online library, as well as the on-call librarians, can

provide a great deal of research assistance. Use O* NET and/or salary.com to provide key critical

information related to job descriptions. Further, check out the information provided online at the

Department of Labor (dol.gov) and the Bureau of Labor Statistics (bls.gov).

    Course Project

The Course Project is divided into the following deliverables.

The Course Project is an individual paper, which is further subdivided as follows:

    1.

    1. First section: Develop a Business Theme and Employee Positions.

    2. Second section: Staffing and Pay Structures.

    3. Final section: Benefits and the Compensation Budget.

    Expectations

The course project will have three (3) deliverables. Each week the paper should be submitted with 4-5

pages in length, double-spaced, not including title and reference pages. The seventh edition APA Style

Manual is the style guide to be used for all written papers in this course.

    • No additional spaces between paragraphs.

    • Paragraphs should be at least three sentences.

    • Indent paragraphs

    • Use 11pt Calibri or 12pt Times New Roman.

    • Have correct grammar, spelling, punctuation, and word usage.

    • One peer-reviewed source (in addition to the textbook), must have an in-text citation and full

reference on the reference page (each week find a new peer-reviewed source).

    • Use APA formatting and style guidelines, including a cover page (link for templateLinks to an

Develop a Business Theme and Employee Positions—Due in Week 3

    Business Theme

    1. What is the business (technical, professional, service, etc.)? Create the business and give it a

    name.

    2. Locate the business in the United States. Give local area demographic information of the area,

business tax structure, and any other information to help with the description of the

    organization and its customer base.

    3. Develop a description of the organization (goals, strategy, culture, values, environment, and

    product or service).

    Employee Positions

    1. Establish a staffing plan and determine the positions needed. There is to be a minimum of six (6)

employees (full-time or part-time) in the startup organization. For other deliverables of the

course project you will be answering questions about the entire staff.

    2. Are employees union or nonunion, or does the work environment include both categories?

    3. Write a job description for one position.

    4. Explain the ranking methodology in your project (see exhibit 5.5 and 5.6 in your textbook).

Job description should contain the following:

    • Use a standardized format for the job description (see exhibit 4.2 in your textbook).

    • NOTE: It would be effortless to use an existing job description. The expectation is for you to

create an original description that aligns with your created business.

    • Describe the scope of the position (Summary).

o Relationships-who will they report to.

    o Qualifications

    o Essential Responsibilities

o Define the qualifications (education requirements, experience, skills, and other criteria).

    ▪ Define the ADA requirements. Each job description should have ADA

requirements defined per position. This should include the physical, mental, and

    environmental conditions per position.

    Reflection

    • Write two-three paragraphs about your take-a-ways from this assignment.

    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    Hello,

Merger and Acquisition (M&A) helps companies grow, expand markets, and gain new capabilities. Before moving forward, businesses should consider a few key questions.

What is the main goal of the deal? Companies should define whether they want growth, new technology, or market expansion. Is the target company financially stable? Reviewing finances helps avoid hidden risks.

Another important factor is cultural fit. Teams and leadership must work well together for a successful integration. Companies should also evaluate potential risks such as operational challenges or customer retention.

Finally, define how success will be measured after the merger. Clear goals help ensure the deal delivers long-term value.
