    **Assignment Description:**

    **Quantitative Research Critique**

Create a PowerPoint presentation that addresses each of the following points/questions. Be sure to completely answer all the questions for each bullet point. Use clear headings that allow your professor to know which bullet you are addressing on the slides in your presentation. Support your content with at least five (5) sources throughout your presentation. Make sure to reference the citations using the APA writing style for the presentation. Include a slide for your references at the end. Follow best practices for PowerPoint presentations related to text size, color, images, effects, wordiness, and multimedia enhancements. Review the rubric criteria for this assignment.

As part of identifying quality studies to address your gap/problem and to help inform your evidence-based practice change, understanding what you are selecting to support your initiative is vital. This requires that you critique each study for reliability and validity concerns. For this week’s assignment, with the PowerPoint, you will be sharing your critique of a quantitative study that links to your identified gap/problem.

**Part A:** Select one scholarly quantitative research article to critique. This Article should be selected through the scholarly databases you learned about earlier.

Your PowerPoint should follow the most current APA standards. There should be a clear title page, introduction, body, conclusion, and references. You should have an audio voiceover discussion and detailed speaker notes explaining your findings. The use of images, graphs, or tables is encouraged to balance the white space and text. Images must not be copyrighted and should be properly APA cited.

The body slides should address the following (be sure to support your rationale with further scholarly sources):

    **Slide One:**

Title – What is the title? Does it accurately describe the article? Is it clear, accurate, and unambiguous?

Abstract – Is it representative of the article? Describe the areas of the abstract the authors covered. Did the abstract provide a clear overview of the study? What could be improved in the abstract coverage?

The Introduction – Does it make the purpose of the article clear?

Statement of the Problem – Is the problem adequately introduced? What makes their problem statement a good problem statement? If it is not well written, what is it about the problem statement that could be improved?

    **Slide Two:**

Purpose of the study – Has the reason for conducting the research been explained? If not, what could be done to improve the purpose’s description? What take-away did you glean from their purpose?

    **Slide Three:**

Research question(s) – Is/are the research question(s) clearly defined, and if not, should they be? Evaluate how their proposed question links with their problem statement and purpose. Share your findings and explain what makes their question appropriate or what you are concerned with.

    **Slide Four:**

Theoretical framework – Is the theoretical framework described and appropriate? If there is not a theoretical framework, should there be? What theoretical science model/theory would be applicable if applied to this study? Explain your rationale for your selection.

    **Slide Five:**

Literature review – Is the literature review relevant to the study, comprehensive, and includes recent research? How many studies were included, and were they recent? Does the literature review support the need for the study? Explain how they organized their literature review. What would you have done differently when presenting the information?

    **Slide Six:**

Methods – What type of design did they use? Is the design appropriate for the study? Explain your rationale for why it is an appropriate design. If you disagree, what approach might have been better?

    **Slide Seven:**

Methods Continued: Does the sample fit with the research design, and is the size sufficient? Was a data collection instrument needed? If so, what was the instrument, and how do you know if it is reliable? How was data collected? Explain how reliability and validity were accounted for?

Ethical Considerations – were the participants fully informed? Was ethical permission granted (IRB)? Describe how the participants were protected from harm.

    **Slide Eight:**

Analysis – Is the analytical approach consistent with the study questions and research design? Explain your rationale for your answer.

    **Slide Nine:**

Results – Are the results presented clearly in the text, tables, and figures? Are the statistics clearly explained?

Limitations – Are the limitations presented and their implications discussed? Share your impression of how well they presented their results and limitations.

    **Slide Ten:**

Discussion – Are the results explained in relation to the theoretical framework, research questions, and significance to clinical practice?

Conclusion – Are there recommendations directed toward clinical practice, future research, and policymakers?

General study overview- was the report well written, do the researcher’s qualifications/position indicate a degree of knowledge? Were all the alluded-to references in the study accurately referenced?

    **Slide Eleven:**

Determine the level and quality of the evidence using a scale
_John Hopkins nursing evidence-based practice: Appendix D: Evidence level and quality guide_ found in Additional Resources. Is the level and quality of your selected study appropriate? Explain your rationale.

**Slide Twelve:** Share your overall impression and experience with reading this study. Can you use the results and recommendations in your practice? Will this study help support your proposed quality improvement project gap? How do you envision the study’s findings playing a role in supporting your project?

**Start by reading and following these instructions:**

    1. Study the required chapter(s) of the textbook and any additional recommended resources. Some answers may require you to do additional research on the Internet or in other reference sources. Choose your sources carefully.

    2. Consider the discussion and the any insights you gained from it.

    3. Review the rubric and the specifications below to ensure that your response aligns with all assignment expectations.

    ## QSO 321 Module Four Journal Guidelines and Rubric

    ### Scenario

You are the chief operating officer (COO) of a local supermarket chain that has 10 stores within a 100-mile radius. The farm-to-table movement has been gaining momentum locally, and now it is a consumer demand and a good practice. This movement supports the use of local suppliers to limit the environmental impact caused by the long-distance transportation of food. It also supports small family farms that use sustainable practices, such as avoiding genetically modified organisms and pesticides or using organic fertilizers. The chief executive officer (CEO) of the supermarket chain has asked you to see if the supermarket can apply some of the farm-to-table principles to how it selects produce suppliers. Before moving too far in that direction, both you and the CEO agree that the inventory management implications need to be understood.

Keep in mind that supermarket customers want a wide range of produce all year long—even produce that does not grow locally during parts of the year. For example, oranges cannot survive very cold weather, but local customers expect to be able to buy them even during snowstorms in the winter.

    ### Directions

For this journal, address the following rubric criteria:

    – Incorporated Farm-to-Table Principles: Identify different ways the supermarket chain could incorporate farm-to-table principles into its operations while still meeting consumer demands.
    – Benefits and Risks: Explain the benefits and risks associated with incorporating farm-to-table principles into the grocery chain’s supply chain.
    – Data and Communication: Describe how data and communication with the local farms are necessary for the supermarket to implement this endeavor.
    – Factors or Metrics: Identify factors or metrics that will determine whether you, as the COO, will support applying farm-to-table principles to the supermarket and explain why.
