    Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    **CASE SCENARIO: THE ALVA FAMILY**

The patient, Mari Alva, is a 33-year-old woman who presents to your outpatient psychiatric clinic with worsening anxiety, sleep disturbance, and episodes of panic over the past four months. She is a single mother to a 9-year-old son, Mat. Mari works as a medical assistant and lives with her mother, Elen (59), who helps with childcare.

Family Background: Mari reports that anxiety “runs in the family.” Her mother, Elen, has a long history of generalized anxiety disorder that was never formally treated. Her father, Carl (63), died two years ago from complications of alcohol use disorder. He struggled with alcohol dependence for most of his adult life, and Mari recalls significant marital conflict between her parents when she was growing up.

Mari has one older brother, Lu (36), who lives nearby. He has a history of depression but is stable on medication. Lu is married and has two young children. Mari describes her relationship with him as “supportive but distant.”

Elen is also the oldest of four siblings. One sister died of breast cancer at 42; the other siblings have hypertension but no major psychiatric diagnoses. Carl’s side of the family includes several relatives with alcohol use disorder.

Presenting Concern: Mari wants to understand whether her symptoms are related to hereditary factors or stress from single parenting, financial strain, and grief over her father’s death. You decide that constructing a three-generation genogram will help illuminate mental health patterns and guide treatment.

    **Using the Alva family information:**

**1.** **Draw a three-generation genogram including Mari, her parents, grandparents (as information allows), siblings, and child.**

**2.** **Indicate major medical, psychiatric, and substance-use patterns, as well as relevant family relationships (close, conflicted, cut-off)**

**3.** **Include a Key or Legend: Include brief explanatory comments, as well as a "key" (legend) that explains the symbols you've used to construct your genogram.**

**Document this assignment in a 2 page-word document.**

**Include a minimum of 4 references published in the last 5 years.**

    **Discussion Prompt:**

Find an operations-based company you are familiar with and research its use of suppliers. First, take a look at what companies have already been reported on and try not to duplicate what someone else has analyzed.

**Company: WALGREENS – Nationwide pharmacy and retail operations**

    **Discussion Points:**

Role of Procurement in the Supply Chain:

    · Describe the role of procurement in the supply chain and its impact on the efficiency of the network.

    **Company Research:**

    · Research whether your chosen company makes any of its own products or outsources all or most of its components and finished products.

    · Determine whether the company sources its components and products internationally or domestically.

    · Provide a macro-picture of the company's products and how it uses a supply chain to source components and/or finished products.

    **Company Description:**

    · Begin by describing the company's products and their supply chain network.

    · Identify the primary risks the company faces with its sourcing.

    **Example Discussion Format:**

Use a different company and follow a similar structure for your discussion. What other strategies could your chosen company implement to improve its procurement and supply chain processes?

    **Company: The Home Depot**

    **Products and Supply Chain Network:**

The Home Depot is a leading home improvement retailer that offers a wide range of products, including tools, construction products, appliances, and services. The company sources its products from a mix of domestic and international suppliers to ensure a diverse and reliable supply chain.

Role of Procurement: Procurement at The Home Depot involves selecting suppliers, negotiating contracts, and managing relationships to ensure a steady flow of high-quality products. Effective procurement practices help the company maintain inventory levels, reduce costs, and improve overall supply chain efficiency.

    **Sourcing Strategy:**

The Home Depot sources many of its products internationally, leveraging global suppliers to access a wide range of goods at competitive prices. However, it also maintains relationships with domestic suppliers to ensure quick replenishment and reduce lead times.

    **Primary Risks:**

The primary risks associated with The Home Depot's sourcing include supply chain disruptions due to geopolitical issues, natural disasters, and fluctuations in currency exchange rates. Additionally, reliance on international suppliers can lead to longer lead times and increased transportation costs.

    **Discussion:**

The Home Depot's procurement strategies significantly impact its operations and supply chain efficiency. By balancing international and domestic sourcing, the company can mitigate risks and maintain a steady supply of products. However, there is always room for improvement. For instance, The Home Depot could invest in more robust supplier relationship management systems or explore alternative sourcing options to further enhance its supply chain resilience.

    ![A close-up of a graph AI-generated content may be incorrect.](https://www.sweetstudy.com/questions/strengths-and-limitations-of-secondary-data-sources-20963573)

In this information age, where data are readily accessible and there is both a great demand for accelerated research projects and strict limitations on research funding, using existing data makes sense. Data used in this way are called secondary data; they come in many forms and contain information on just about anything—depending on who collected the information in the first place, and why.

As a health professional, you have access to a wide range of secondary data sources, including government agencies (such as, the Census Bureau or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and private sources, including local health service providers. Global and international data are available from familiar sources, such as the World Health Organization and the United Nations. In addition, nearly every nation maintains statistics on social, economic, and environmental indicators, which contain a wealth of health information.
As a member of the Walden community, you have access to the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), the world’s largest archival database of secondary data. You also have access to the Social Change Impact Report (SCIR) data sets—a Walden-owned database. There are also a number of sources and tutorials available to you through Walden’s Office of Research and Doctoral Quality.
No matter the topic—be it vaccination rates, women’s access to mammography, or chronic lung disease—you can probably find an existing secondary data source related to the specific population health problem you are investigating. The next steps are to identify the variables in the data source that you would need to analyze to examine the association of interest and to assess the validity of the data source. For this Assignment, you delve into these issues in greater detail.

    RESOURCES

Be sure to review the Learning Resources before completing this activity.

    [**WEEKLY RESOURCES**](https://waldenu.instructure.com/courses/215573/modules/items/8999887)

    TO PREPARE:

    · Consider a variety of population health problems and then select one of professional interest on which to focus for this Assignment.

    · Explore three data sources (data sets) presented in the Learning Resources that could aid you in describing the population and magnitude of the problem you selected. Consider the strengths and limitations of each data source.

    THE ASSIGNMENT

In 3–4 pages (not including title page and references), analyze the data sources you selected by addressing the following:

    · Briefly identify the population health problem you selected.

    · Identify each data set you selected.

    · Identify the variables in each data set you would need to examine the association of interest.

    · Assess the validity of each data set. Has it been used for prior studies/publications?

    · Explain challenges you might face as a researcher in identifying a proper data set or securing permission to use it.
