Leveling the Playing Field: Why Female Athletes Deserve Equal Pay

Should professional female athletes be paid the same as male athletes in the same sport?

    **Thesis:**

Women professional athletes are supposed to earn as much as their counterparts in the same sport due to the fact that they also have the same level of expertise and dedication, bring more money and viewers and they must be compensated on the principles of fairness and equity.

    **Main Ideas:**

    1. Women athletes are equally competent and committed and equally good competitors.

    2. Women sports bring high and increasing revenue and fan interest.

    3. Equal pay fosters fairness, equity and sustainability of professional sports in the long run.

    **Introduction**

That is the case, being one of the finest athletes in the world and after years of hard training, you realize that you only earn a fraction of what your male peer is earning to play the same sport. Elite women athletes are professional and therefore practice their trade over years and perform excellently on behalf of their nations and teams. However, the problem of pay disparities continues to exist. Today, I will present a case that women professional athletes should earn as much as their male counterparts in the same sporting activity. This problem is important in that it raises greater concerns of equity, possibility and the way we appreciate talent in our society. Being a fan of professional sport and a scholar on the topic of gender equity in sports, I think that performance and professionalism should be considered when paying to people or not their gender. I will prove that female athletes are no inferior in their excellence, female sports create powerful economic possibilities, and equal payment supports the honesty and future of professional sports.

    **Body**

    1. Women athletes are equally skilled, dedicated and competitive.

    a. Women athletes receive the same intense training, tournaments, as well as athletic performance standards as the male athletes.

Author: U.S. Women and Soccer Team Equal Pay Settlement (U.S. Soccer Federation, 2022).

Transitional: Although performance and commitment are equivalent, others believe there is a need to pay gap because of revenue differences and hence it is time we look at the financial aspect.

    2. Women sports bring about huge and increasing revenues and following.

    a. Significant tournaments like FIFA Women world cup and the WNBA seasons have attracted the highest records of viewing and sponsorship.

Source: FIFA Women's World Cup Viewership Report (FIFA, 2023).

Transition: There is more to performance and revenue, equal pay is also an expression of fairness and equity.

    3. Equal payment encourages fairness, equity and long term development of professional sports.

    a. Pay equity brings in investment, young involvement as well as sustainable development in sports of women.

Author: World Economic Forum Report on Gender Equality in Sports (2022).

Transition: Nonetheless, critics state that compensation ought to be directly proportional to market demand as opposed to the idea of equality

    4. Counter-argument: It is said that male athletes deserve to make more, as they bring more income.

    a. Response: A difference in revenue can be based on a historical under-investment in women sports; more promotion and media coverage are already indicating high market growth.

    b. Reference: Deloitte Sports Industry Outlook (2023).

    **Conclusion**

Female athletes who are professionals receive equal training, play on the highest level and are becoming a bigger source of economic benefits. Equal pay does not only imply equal salaries, but it is also the appreciation of greatness, promotion of fairness and the future development of professional sports. By paying players well, we are sending a strong signal to the society about what we consider in our society, talent, hard work and fairness. Whether women should have equal pay or not is not the question, the evidence demonstrates that they deserve it. The real challenge is whether we are willing to play upon a level playing field.

    **Visual Aids:**

Yes. I will use the slides that will consist of:

    1. Comparison table of salaries in average in men and women league.

    2. A chart of the growth of the women sports viewership.

    3. A one-minute-long infographic that sums up the case of equal pay of the U.S. Women’s National Soccer Team.

In this information age, where data are readily accessible and there is both a great demand for accelerated research projects and strict limitations on research funding, using existing data makes sense. Data used in this way are called secondary data; they come in many forms and contain information on just about anything—depending on who collected the information in the first place, and why.

As a health professional, you have access to a wide range of secondary data sources, including government agencies (such as, the Census Bureau or the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) and private sources, including local health service providers. Global and international data are available from familiar sources, such as the World Health Organization and the United Nations. In addition, nearly every nation maintains statistics on social, economic, and environmental indicators, which contain a wealth of health information.
As a member of the Walden community, you have access to the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR), the world’s largest archival database of secondary data. You also have access to the Social Change Impact Report (SCIR) data sets—a Walden-owned database. There are also a number of sources and tutorials available to you through Walden’s Office of Research and Doctoral Quality.
No matter the topic—be it vaccination rates, women’s access to mammography, or chronic lung disease—you can probably find an existing secondary data source related to the specific population health problem you are investigating. The next steps are to identify the variables in the data source that you would need to analyze to examine the association of interest and to assess the validity of the data source. For this Assignment, you delve into these issues in greater detail.

    TO PREPARE:

    · Consider a variety of population health problems and then select one of professional interest on which to focus for this Assignment.

    · Explore three data sources (data sets) presented in the Learning Resources that could aid you in describing the population and magnitude of the problem you selected. Consider the strengths and limitations of each data source.

    THE ASSIGNMENT

In 3–4 pages (not including title page and references), analyze the data sources you selected by addressing the following:

    · Briefly identify the population health problem you selected.

    · Identify each data set you selected.

    · Identify the variables in each data set you would need to examine the association of interest.

    · Assess the validity of each data set. Has it been used for prior studies/publications?

    · Explain challenges you might face as a researcher in identifying a proper data set or securing permission to use it.

Assignment Prompt & Instructions

    [>Operations Management homework help](https://www.sweetstudy.com/fields/business-finance-operations-management)

    ## Overview

You are an HR consultant, hired to resolve issues stemming from communication and coordination challenges between employees of the U.S. branch and the Singaporean headquarters of a software solutions provider. You decide to recommend organization-wide changes to resolve the issues related to communication and coordination. You evaluate the organizational change readiness and send a report on change management models, justifying your selection of a particular model.

Your efforts are appreciated and well received by the VP and the leadership team of the software solutions organization. However, they now want to understand how the training development needs of the workforce can be strategically aligned with the organization’s business needs.

You decide to prepare a presentation, detailing the training requirements for the employees and leadership of the U.S. branch, as well as leadership at the Singaporean headquarters. The strategy will target the identification of training that will improve communication and understanding between employees at the U.S. branch and leadership at both locations. Such a training strategy will facilitate interaction between both locations and align with the business strategy of expanding to the U.S. market.

    ## Prompt

Create a PowerPoint presentation with on-slide text and narration or speaker notes to explain the methods of strategically aligning skill development with business strategy in the course scenario.

**Note:** Remember to use both on-screen text and narration or speaker notes in your PowerPoint slides to convey your information effectively. If narration is not possible, precise and extensive speaker notes should be used, while addressing all of the rubric elements in the presentation. For example, you can use brief, bulleted lists on the slide and include detailed explanations in your narration or speaker notes.

Specifically, you must address the following criteria in your presentation:

    1. Describe the **skills required for managers to enable change** in the organization (Singaporean headquarters and U.S. branch).

    1. Use the company data provided in the form of [Leaders’ Self Evaluations](https://learn.snhu.edu/content/enforced/2180161-MBA-687-10070.202617-1/Course%20Documents/MBA%20687%20Leaders'%20Self-Evaluations.pdf?isCourseFile=true&ou=2180161) to complete this step.
    2. Why could there be resistance to change implementation within the organization?
    3. Which skills do managers need to help address such resistance?
    2. Explain the methods of **aligning training strategy with business strategy**.

    1. How can training support the strategic goals of the organization (Singaporean headquarters and the U.S. branch)?
    2. What customization is required to align the training at the U.S. branch to the business strategy defined at the Singapore headquarters?
    3. How can training enable the U.S. branch employees to adapt to the work culture of the Singaporean head office?
    4. What are the learning objectives that will enable the American employees to meet the business goals defined for the U.S. branch?
    3. Describe two **strategic workforce development goals** for the U.S. branch.

    1. Use the [Employee Engagement Surveys](https://learn.snhu.edu/content/enforced/2180161-MBA-687-10070.202617-1/Course%20Documents/MBA%20687%20Employee%20Engagement%20Surveys.pdf?ou=2180161) to identify the strategic workforce development goals.
    2. Which data points identify the development goals of the U.S. branch employees?
    3. How can training help meet the development goals of the U.S. branch employees?

    ## What to Submit

Create a PowerPoint presentation with detailed speaker notes. Your presentation should be Min 5 slides in length. Sources should be cited in APA format and listed on a separate reference slide. Consult the [Shapiro Library APA Style Guide](https://snhu.ink/ShapiroAPAGuide) for more information on citations.
